Coordinate Grid Generator

Draw a customizable lat/long graticule, UTM grid or MGRS grid over a real map, tune the styling, then export the exact grid as GeoJSON or a standalone SVG for map layouts. Everything runs in your browser.

About the three grid types (click to expand)
  • Lat/Long graticule — plain lines of latitude and longitude at a fixed interval in decimal degrees. Every 5th line is treated as a major line. Labels can show decimal degrees or degrees/minutes/seconds.
  • UTM grid — square kilometre grid in the Universal Transverse Mercator projection. Because each 6°-wide UTM zone has its own projection, the grid is generated per zone and the dashed zone boundaries appear wherever two zones meet in view. UTM is only defined between 80°S and 84°N — the grid is clamped there.
  • MGRS grid — the military grid: 6°×8° grid zone designators (like 19T), lettered 100 km squares (like CG), and 10 km / 1 km subdivisions when zoomed in. The Norway (32V) and Svalbard (31X–37X) zone-width exceptions are drawn.

The grid regenerates for whatever is on screen. Turn on Fix extent to lock a bounding box instead — exports then cover exactly that box no matter where you pan. UTM math is the standard WGS84 series expansion (same code as the Coordinate Converter tool); MGRS letters use the AA lettering scheme.
